Xenia Gray joins Artplex Gallery

Xenia Gray’s figurative paintings inhabit a space of quiet introspection: solitary figures drift within minimal environments, capturing emotional weight through stillness and nuance. Born in post‑Soviet Siberia and now based in the U.S., Gray was shaped early on by the starkness of her surroundings—industrial landscapes and cultural reticence—that fostered a deep sensitivity to the unseen, unspoken facets of human experience.
Educated in Saint Petersburg with both a BA and MA in Advertisement Design, Gray moved to the U.S. in 2010. Her contemplative practice—primarily oil, acrylic, and charcoal—has since evolved into a visual meditation on memory, connection, and absence. Rather than overwhelming the canvas, she pares back details; her figures are lightweight, introspective, and set in open, neutral spaces that amplify psychological presence over physical form.
A key influence in her creative evolution came through spiritual and physical experiences. During a Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in 2023, Gray walked over 30 km daily, an undertaking she credits with forging profound internal clarity and inspiring shifts in her visual language—introducing new color palettes and compositional gravitas. Similarly, a ten-day silent Vipassana retreat reinforced her immersion in meditative calm, helping her cultivate the subtle emotional atmospheres now characteristic of her work.
Her paintings and process have earned attention through interviews, podcasts, and artist features, all noting her ability to voice “unexpressed feelings and things left unsaid” via minimal yet emotionally potent imagery.
Artplex Gallery began representing Xenia Gray in June 2025, acknowledging her as a significant new voice in contemporary figurative painting. Her work adds a compelling new dimension to the gallery’s ongoing commitment to psychologically resonant, emotionally engaged contemporary painting. Her artworks are now on view at Artplex Gallery in Los Angeles and available online.
