Embedded Perspectives

Memory, silence, and tradition move quietly through the language of art, shaping how and what artists create. In Embedded Perspectives, Artplex Gallery brings together Nando Kallweit, Amadou Opa Bathily, and Xenia Gray—artists whose works embed cultural context as a way of seeing, offering vision shaped by memory and place. The works resonate as both expression and reference, shifting the act of looking toward the perspectives of the artists themselves, where meaning expands beyond the viewer’s own frame of context.
Nando Kallweit’s practice carries echoes of formative encounters that shaped his artistic outlook. Captivated by the iconic bust of Nefertiti in Berlin, he discovered an enduring fascination with archetypal form that continues to resonate through his work. His sculptures appear elongated and poised, with figures that seem to inhabit both ancient memory and contemporary presence. Each work balances strength with delicacy, offering a vision in which cultural atmospheres flow across time and emerge in quiet, commanding form.
For Amadou Opa Bathily, creation has always been entwined with resourcefulness. His early experiences in a Bamako recycling workshop revealed the potential of discarded materials, cultivating a philosophy of resilience and adaptability that continues to guide his practice. This sense of vitality runs through his work, where surfaces feel alive with energy and form emerges from transformation. Context is embedded within the work, woven into its very surface and form.
Xenia Gray’s paintings unfold within an atmosphere of silence and restraint. Raised in post-Soviet Siberia, she developed an acute sensitivity to absence, memory, and the subtleties of emotion that linger beneath the surface. Her figures often appear suspended in quiet tension, their presence both intimate and elusive. Layers of paint and shadow build spaces that feel contemplative and charged, suggesting how cultural climate persists as an emotional register, inscribed into form as much as into feeling.
Since its establishment in 2018, Artplex Gallery has been a leader in showcasing high-quality, original contemporary art. Located in West Hollywood, the gallery specializes in presenting a diverse spectrum of international artists whose works challenge conventions and captivate the imagination.
