About
Kate Tova’s *Lilac Hydrangea Glitch* transforms a familiar floral subject through vibrant color, reflective materials, and richly built texture. Painted hydrangea blooms emerge through layers of acrylic, gold leaf, sequins, rhinestones, and glitter, creating a surface that shifts with the surrounding light. Soft lilac and violet tones are punctuated by flashes of metallic detail, giving the composition a luminous and tactile presence.
Tova draws on the relationship between natural beauty and contemporary technology. The flower appears to flicker and fragment across the surface, as though viewed through a digital interruption. This visual “glitch” brings movement to the composition while preserving the lush character of the hydrangea. The result is playful, opulent, and unmistakably contemporary.

Kate Tova’s practice is informed by the distinct places and visual environments that have shaped her life. The ornate, gilded architecture of her early surroundings and the saturated color of New Orleans continue to influence her use of embellishment and bold palettes. Now based in San Francisco, she explores the visual language of the Information Era, bringing digital references into paintings that remain tactile and materially expressive.
Tova has received awards and critical recognition through exhibitions in Vienna, Berlin, New York, Prague, and other international cities. Her work has appeared on album covers and in international publications, and its distinctive visual language has inspired a jewelry collection. These projects reflect the broad appeal of her work and its ability to move between contemporary art, design, fashion, and popular culture.
