About
The paintings of Bruce Rubenstein seamlessly marry sophistication with accessibility. His expressive abstract artwork "Deconstructing Dystopia" brings together fragmented figures, biomorphic curves, geometric structures, and playful symbols within a densely layered composition. Black outlines guide the eye through overlapping forms rendered in warm shades of sand, cream, white, brown, and gray. Rubenstein’s original art merges the creative attitudes of New York and Los Angeles, combining strong compositional structure with spontaneous mark-making and organic shapes. References to abstract expressionism and cubism appear throughout the painting, yet its distinctive characters, circular motifs, and animated linework give the work a contemporary visual language. The restrained palette allows the intricate arrangement of forms to remain lively, imaginative, and continually revealing.

Bruce Rubenstein specializes in large-scale artworks, using expansive canvases to tell his stories. Born and raised in New York, he moved to Los Angeles in 1985. His mixed media artworks defy categorization, blending abstract forms and organic shapes with subtle suggestions of figures and symbols. Adrien Brody and Mickey Rourke are among Rubenstein’s collectors.
Rubenstein’s artistic influences range from Joan Miró and Jean Arp to Gerhard Richter and Pablo Picasso. His instinctive process allows marks, materials, and ideas to accumulate freely across the canvas. Layers of paint and charcoal create an active surface where shapes intersect, repeat, and shift between recognizable imagery and abstraction.
His works are represented by Artplex Gallery Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including exhibitions in Austria and Israel.
