Threshold Matter

October 24, 2026 - December 12, 2026 Threshold Matter: October 24, 2026 - December 12, 2026

Artplex Gallery is pleased to present Threshold Matter, featuring the work of Alex Voinea, Chris Wood, and Alessandro Casetti. The exhibition brings together artists who work with material and time as inseparable parts of image, making process and reaction integral to each work’s resonance. A deep understanding of their media allows the artists to compose with anticipated behavior, building visual and emotional consequence into the work. Across the exhibition, the inherent qualities of each medium become part of the work’s meaning, bringing artistic intention and material effect into alignment.

Alex Voinea is an established abstract painter whose practice is grounded in an intimate familiarity with paint and the immediacy of working at speed. Early work in decorative painting gave him a deep knowledge of pigments and materials, a foundation that still informs the vivid color and fluidity of his compositions. Softly receding grounds create pronounced spatial depth, while sharply defined marks give the work what Voinea calls an “almost hyper-realist” precision. Voinea’s rapid process remains visible in long sweeps, sudden turns, and suspended drips that retain the character of actions made in moments. The tension between motion and precision gives his paintings their defining character, keeping the compositions energetic, exact, and visually resolved.

Chris Wood has centered her practice on using light as a compositional force. Her study of design, with a focus on glass at the Royal College of Art, established the structural discipline that guides her work. Wood arranges sections of dichroic glass into measured geometric patterns, positioning each element in anticipation of how it will redirect light. As illumination shifts, the restrained glass structure opens into overlapping bands of saturated color, expanding the physical arrangement into a dramatic visual presence. The optical intensity gives the work a heightened emotional resonance, bringing expressive depth to the precision of its structure. Wood composes for what is not yet visible, giving restrained form a depth that continues to unfold.

Alessandro Casetti is an Italian figurative painter whose practice is shaped by a sustained exploration of paint, surface, and the material processes that give his works their distinctive physical character. Training at the Art Institute of Sansepolcro and the Fine Arts Academy in Florence established a rigorous command of figurative painting that continues to underpin his increasingly abstract treatment of the human form. Faces emerge through fields of saturated color, while fractured surfaces carry tension and emotional shifts through their features, allowing vulnerability and introspection to become part of the image’s physical presence. For Casetti, portraiture becomes a way of looking inward, drawing attention toward the private emotional worlds that shape our outward lives. Figuration and fracture keep his portraits grounded in emotion, alive with tension, and deeply introspective.

Together, the works reveal the discipline behind processes that can appear fluid, reactive, or open-ended. In Threshold Matter, each artist draws on a deep knowledge of material behavior to direct movement, light, and fracture toward a precise visual and emotional result. What emerges is work shaped by intention at every stage, its visual and emotional force carried by the artist’s command of process.
