Alex Voinea was born in Romania in 1973 and is an artist currently residing in Sitges, Barcelona. He began his artistic career in Italy after leaving Romania following the revolution. Since then, his work has been showcased in several international art hubs such as Brussels, Paris, London, Milan, Amsterdam, New York, and Los Angeles.
Voinea's abstract paintings are characterized by fading backgrounds, vibrant sweeping brushstrokes, and an array of saturated and fluorescent colors that evoke a sense of fluidity and motion. He captures fleeting moments of tension and relief that last only a thousandth of a second, using undulating strokes that vibrate against geometric planes of color, inspired by experiments with paint poured over vibrating surfaces. Voinea uses projections of paint, splashes of pure material, and streams of color in space to express the temporary nature of life, capturing and freezing an imaginary big bang of color in an instant.
