About
Max Naylor’s “Storm Surge” carries the force of a landscape in motion, where water, trees, rocks, and imagined botanical forms collide in a highly detailed scene. The artwork feels energetic and cinematic, with curling waves moving through the composition as red blossoms, dark branches, and coral-like forms rise from the surrounding terrain.
Bright red, deep teal, pale blue, golden yellow, coral, charcoal, and warm cream tones create a vivid sense of contrast across the paper. Naylor’s India ink brings crisp detail to the waves and foliage, giving each area its own rhythm and texture. The water sweeps across the center with a strong sense of movement, while the surrounding trees and organic forms give the scene an almost mythical quality. The result feels dynamic, layered, and full of visual surprises that reveal themselves slowly.
