Glossy magazine pages are manipulated to arc up and off the page and become dimensional and full of movement under artist I-Chun Jenkins’ hand. The formerly two-dimensional objects are meticulous, poignantly intimate, and bring the viewer to a new understanding of woven material.
A love of magazines and, conversely, the environment led Jenkins to the artist’s logical conclusion: to reuse her magazines as the material source for her weaving and artwork. Pages are meticulously cut, sliced, woven, crocheted, or folded to create one-of-a-kind artworks. The finish amplifies images from the magazine off the paper as the same images contribute to the design she creates. Unconventional materials create entirely new objects.
